About the role

Microsoft is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on Client Telemetry within the Azure Monitor team. This role combines technical leadership and people management, emphasizing the importance of operational health and reliability in high-volume production services. The team is responsible for building telemetry systems that help Microsoft engineers understand customer needs and improve service quality. The position also involves fostering an inclusive environment and driving cross-organization initiatives to achieve shared outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Set and communicate the multi-year technical direction for a large-scale observability/telemetry platform.
• Lead through other leaders and senior engineers, growing, coaching, and retaining a diverse team.
• Own the operational health of high-volume production services.
• Advance the security and compliance posture of your services.
• Drive cross-organization initiatives and difficult trade-offs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
