Principal Software Engineer - PA058
About the role
Own the tooling and services that power the next generation of our CI/CD pipelines—the GitOps deployment API/CLI (TypeScript/Node, NestJS), self-service deployment capabilities (ArgoCD/Helm/Cloud Run), the shared TypeScript package ecosystem (an Nx monorepo), and the ingress layer—making the calls on how these systems evolve, integrate, and stay reliable as a large share of the company depends on them, in partnership with our CI/CD team.
Lead the stabilization and strategic evolution of these mission-critical systems; prioritize technical knowledge capture and de-risk the highest-leverage deployment paths as the platform transitions to your ownership.
Lead technical direction—golden paths, standards, and the multi-quarter roadmap—across the delivery tooling and the Go automation and intelligence platform (internal APIs, durable workflows, agentic tooling), including build-vs-buy, consolidation, and sunset calls.
Stay hands-on at the hard edges—design and build the highest-leverage, highest-risk components yourself in Go and TypeScript/Node, and set the patterns others follow.
Shape how we apply Agentic AI, MCP (Model Context Protocol), and durable workflows (Temporal) to automate the creation, upgrading, and auditing of infrastructure.
Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, raise the quality bar through design and code review, and influence partner teams—CI/CD, the embedded DevOps teams, and the org that co-owns the shared monorepo—without relying on positional authority.
Responsibilities
- Architect and operate tooling, services, or platforms that many other teams depend on, focusing on API/contract design, versioning, backward compatibility, and blast-radius management.
- Lead high-stakes inheritance or migration projects, set direction across teams, mentor senior engineers, and drive alignment across organizational boundaries.
- Design and build critical components in Go and TypeScript/Node, establishing patterns for others to follow.
- Apply Agentic AI, MCP, and durable workflows (Temporal) to automate infrastructure tasks.
- Mentor engineers and influence partner teams through design and code reviews.
Requirements
- 12+ years of backend, platform, or infrastructure engineering experience, or equivalent impact and technical leadership.
- Strong experience in at least one of the following:
- Delivery / GitOps tooling — ArgoCD (ideally ApplicationSets), Helm, and building deployment tooling that other engineers rely on.
- Backend platform & API engineering at scale, on systems many teams build on.
- Proficiency in Go or TypeScript/JavaScript, with strong working ability in the other. Our delivery systems are TypeScript/Node (NestJS, in an Nx monorepo); our automation platform core is Go.
- Experience with Kubernetes (K8s), serverless runtimes (GCP Cloud Run or equivalent), and major cloud providers (GCP and AWS).
- Practical experience or strong theoretical depth in Agentic AI, MCP, and A2A (Agent-to-Agent) frameworks, with a point of view on their role in infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with durable execution (Temporal or similar) for stateful distributed workflows, and with Terraform at scale.
- Experience with multi-runtime delivery (Cloud Functions, Dataflow, Lambda) beyond Cloud Run.
- Experience co-owning a shared monorepo or platform across multiple teams or orgs.
- Contributions to open-source infrastructure, CD, or developer-tooling projects.
- Expertise with Helm, Argo, or Istio.
