Principal Software Engineer
Overview: Cotiviti is consolidating several client‑facing portals into one unified Client Performance Portal covering executive, analyst, and operations views, SLA reporting, benchmarking, case detail, enhancement requests, roadmap visibility, regulatory insights, and billing self‑service. One module already exists in production (Support/ticketing, built on Blazor/.NET, Azure PaaS, Okta, and Jira) and will be folded in rather than rebuilt from scratch. The role is a hands‑on, full‑stack Principal Software Engineer who will architect and help build this platform, assess and integrate the existing Support module, design connections to internal systems, and set the patterns for the rest of the team.
Responsibilities
- Assess the existing Support/ticketing module (Blazor, Azure PaaS, Okta, Jira) and decide whether to absorb it as‑is, wrap it behind an API, or re‑platform it to match the unified portal’s target stack.
- Lead technical discovery: inventory legacy client portal systems and determine how to expose their data to a unified, client‑facing layer.
- Define and personally help build the overall architecture – API/aggregation layer, data pipelines, authentication/authorization model, and integration patterns with source‑of‑record systems.
- Make and document build‑vs‑integrate decisions for major components (e.g., enhancement‑request workflow, document repository) with clear trade‑offs.
- Design role‑based access control and data segmentation so Executive, Analyst, and Operations personas—and different client organizations—see only appropriate data, aligning with the existing Okta/SCIM setup.
- Partner with Product, Security/Compliance, and Data teams to ensure the architecture supports regulatory and PHI/PII handling requirements from day one.
- Write production code across frontend and backend to establish component structure, API conventions, and integration approaches for the engineering team.
- Produce architecture documentation and decision records for the engineering team.
- Advise on sequencing and phasing of the build given technical dependencies and risk.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact through discovery and early build phases.
- Complete all responsibilities outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting, as well as any special projects or other duties assigned.
- Perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation as required.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a principal, staff‑level, or senior technical lead role with hands‑on full‑stack delivery.
- Strong C#/.NET expertise, with exposure to Blazor or comparable component‑based .NET web frameworks sufficient to evaluate, integrate, or re‑platform an existing Blazor application.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Azure PaaS services: App Service/Web Apps, API Management, Logic Apps (or equivalent workflow/orchestration), Key Vault, and Azure‑managed relational databases (Postgres or SQL).
- Experience with enterprise identity platforms (Okta, Azure AD/Entra ID, or similar), specifically SSO, MFA, and SCIM‑based provisioning.
- Experience integrating with third‑party SaaS systems via REST APIs and webhooks (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow, Zendesk), including bidirectional sync patterns.
- Proven ability to produce clear architecture documentation and drive technical decisions with cross‑functional stakeholders (product, security, compliance).
- Experience scoping and sequencing a multi‑phase technical program, making explicit build‑vs‑integrate‑vs‑replatform decisions on existing systems.
Cognitive/Mental Requirements
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Problem‑solving and critical thinking.
- Completing tasks independently and interpreting data.
- Making timely decisions within workflow contexts.
- Maintaining focus and assessing accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work.
- Learning new tasks and meeting productivity quotas.
- Remembering, adhering to, and applying established processes and protocols promptly.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Provide high‑speed internet access, a secure dedicated work area, and appropriate office setup and maintenance.
- Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Pay
Base compensation ranges from $130,000 to $176,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs. This role is eligible for discretionary bonus consideration.
