Principal Software Architect and Development Lead

About the role

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on protecting national security. KBR is seeking a Principal Software Architect and Development Lead to serve as the software discipline lead for engineering and development activities, providing technical leadership and architectural oversight for software products, IR&D projects, and innovation initiatives. Location: Remote, with willingness to travel 1-3 times per quarter (0-20% travel).

Responsibilities

• Lead development teams in the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of modern software solutions.
• Define and maintain software architecture standards and best practices.
• Lead AI/ML, cloud, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Conduct architecture reviews and code reviews while enforcing software quality standards.
• Mentor software engineers and provide technical guidance across programs.
• Support hiring activities including interviewing, candidate selection, onboarding, and workforce development.
• Partner with leadership to develop and execute software strategy and technology roadmaps.
• Collaborate with customers, program managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver mission-focused software capabilities.
