About the role

The Immunology and Cardiovascular Thematic Research Center (ICV TRC) at Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a translational scientist with a background in cardiovascular biology. This position involves identifying and discovering novel and existing biomarkers to support the progression of late-discovery programs to early phase clinical trials and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Perform studies to define pharmacodynamic biomarkers of response and disease progression, as a member of a discovery team and can investigate and articulate how these biomarkers may translate to the clinic.
  • Thorough knowledge of experimental design, and a high level of technical laboratory skills (including cell culture of relevant cell lines and primary cells, immunoassays, such as ELISA/MSD, IHC, protein signaling, qPCR technology platforms) together with an ability to interpret results.
  • Employ technical knowledge and theory to make experimental in-life modifications, when necessary.
  • Lead studies to completion, including the hands-on analysis of samples internally or directing studies externally through management of CROs.
  • Evaluate programs critically and present findings and recommendations to discovery teams and leadership.
  • Document, critically review, modify experimental approach, if necessary, and present experimental data in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams by providing timely and actionable study results.
  • Provide hands-on training and guidance to develop team members.
  • Contribute to and author reports, abstracts, and publications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Life Sciences with 8+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
  • Master’s Degree in the Life Sciences with 6+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences with 4+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
  • Basic Qualifications:
    • Strong understanding of cardiovascular physiology and modern cardiovascular methodologies (including those that may serve as pharmacodynamic endpoints) employed pre-clinically and clinically.
    • A strong understanding of imaging biomarkers used in the clinic (eg ultrasound-echocardiography, MRI, and PET).
    • A hands-on experience handling rodents is necessary.
    • Expertise culturing and making biochemical and/or functional measurements in iPSC-CM, primary cardiac cells, and/or engineered heart tissues is necessary.
    • Excellent laboratory skills, prioritizing accurate and reproducible work.
    • Skills in managing external collaborators and setting clear timelines and expectations.
    • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, matrixed team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Physiology, Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience and 5+ years’ experience after completion of terminal degree, including post-doctoral training.
  • Alternatively, an M.S. in a related field with 5+ years (after completion of degree) relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience handling rodents is necessary.
  • Expertise culturing and making biochemical and/or functional measurements in iPSC-CM, primary cardiac cells, and/or engineered heart tissues is necessary.
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular physiology and modern cardiovascular methodologies (including those that may serve as pharmacodynamic endpoints) employed pre-clinically and clinically.
  • An understanding of the considerations for the use of animals in research, with a focus species-specific use, and can articulate and apply 3Rs principles in designing and initiating experiments.
