About the role

The client is a globally recognized engineering and environmental consulting firm seeking a Principal Consultant to support and expand its environmental practice in the Bay Area. This is a leadership-focused role for a technically strong consultant who thrives in client-facing environments and enjoys balancing project delivery, business development, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee complex site investigation, remediation, and environmental compliance projects.
  • Manage project teams, budgets, schedules, and technical deliverables while ensuring high-quality client service.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor on environmental and regulatory matters.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities through networking, proposal development, and client engagement.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives within the Bay Area and broader regional market.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across environmental, engineering, and scientific disciplines.
  • Provide technical support for environmental litigation, insurance claims, cost recovery actions, and expert witness services when applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of environmental consulting experience with a strong emphasis on site investigation and remediation.
  • Proven success managing environmental projects from proposal through completion.
  • Demonstrated business development experience, including client management, proposal preparation, and revenue generation.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical staff and project teams.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A California professional registration (PE, PG, CHG, or related credential) is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing environmental litigation support, technical expert services, or expert witness support.
  • Established client relationships within the Bay Area environmental consulting market.
  • Experience managing large remediation programs for industrial, commercial, energy, manufacturing, or public-sector clients.
