About the role
The Contested Environment System Analysis group at Draper is seeking a Principal-level Radiation Architecture Engineer to support cross-functional teams in developing system concepts, architectures, and requirements that enable operation in natural and hostile radiation environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in delivering radiation-hardened systems and ensuring they meet performance requirements under these conditions.
Responsibilities
- Support engineering decisions based on radiation effects on overall system performance.
- Design and verify the performance of systems across multiple radiation effects, including dose rate, TID, NDD, and SEE.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure radiation hardening is maintained throughout the product lifecycle.
- Independently drive solutions to complex problems, including developing requirements, proposing ways forward when customer requirements are unclear or incomplete, and adapting to changes in requirements.
- Sustain a record of successful task leadership, identifying and mitigating risks, and aligning the team towards program goals while building trust.
- Identify and develop best practices for less experienced engineers, teaching them across various technical challenges and disciplines.
- Demonstrate strong organization, planning, and time management skills to achieve program goals.
- Mentor team members, recognizing their strengths and weaknesses and providing constructive feedback.
Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor's in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
- A Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
- 7-10 years of radiation engineering or related experience.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary program teams, including leadership and non-technical personnel.
- Strong analytical skills for modeling and analysis tasks.
- Excellent organizational and attention-to-detail skills, especially for planning critical test and analysis activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Team player capable of balancing multiple tasks and demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of radiation interactions with materials and devices.
