Principal Quality Engineer
About the role
The Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) Charleston seeks a Quality Engineer to maintain the Moored Training Ships (MTS) and their support systems to Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) standards. This role ensures first-time quality maintenance and supports continuous improvement through self-assessment.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for site organizations to achieve first-time quality maintenance.
- Conduct thorough documented surveillances of maintenance work in progress and audits of supporting records of accomplishment.
- Mentor site organizations in conducting critical self-assessment to promote performance improvement.
Requirements
- Qualifying and maintaining an NPTU Charleston Emergency Response Organization.
- Completion of a 5-week Quality Assurance Officer course (QAOC) in Norfolk, VA or previous QAOC qualification.
- Minimum of 9 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 7 years with a master’s degree, or 3 years with a doctorate degree in a related field.
- Experience with MTS Operations or Naval Nuclear Power Program.
- Familiarity with Project Management Principles.
- Prior Quality Assurance Officer course qualification.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.
- Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.
- Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field.
- Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Skills
- Demonstrated ability to articulate technical ideas/concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively team with individual contributors, managers, and external organizations.

$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually
