About the role

The People Strategy and Analytics team at Capital One is on a mission to transform the associate experience—from hiring to onboarding to career development—so that all talent can flourish. As a Principal People Scientist, you will use organizational science, measurement techniques, behavioral insights, and advanced analytics to drive that transformation. You’ll work on a cross-functional team that includes analysts, data scientists, and other people scientists, specializing in enterprise listening strategies like surveying and measurement design while collaborating with HR partners in Talent & Performance Management, People Leadership, and Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging. Projects will focus on improving the associate experience and unlocking best practices in talent strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Consultation: Apply expertise in organizational science principles and analysis to help clients frame problems, answer questions, and design solutions to improve the associate experience.
  • Design: Build and drive key programs and solutions, including strategies for measurement and validation.
  • Experimentation: Partner with clients and teams across Capital One to design experiments to understand key drivers of associate behavior.
  • Insights & analysis: Analyze the impact of programs and combine insights with the latest organizational science thinking to help clients make data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • At least 1 year of professional work experience in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or Behavioral Science.
  • At least 1 year of data analysis experience conducting analyses and building statistical models in R, Python, or SQL.
  • At least 2 years of experience consulting with external or internal clients across various seniority levels and technical backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or Behavioral Science.
  • At least 2 years of professional work experience in Industrial and Organizational Psychology or Organizational Behavior.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methodologies, including regression, longitudinal analysis, or Bayesian modeling.

  • Analytical thinking: Proven track record of decision-making and problem-solving based on analytics, complemented by strong quantitative skills.

  • Partnership: Collaborate effectively with team members and HR clients.
  • Business communication: Strong written and oral communication skills, including data visualization and storytelling for stakeholders.
  • Results focus: Drive for results and achieve goals with strong organizational skills and detail orientation, even in ambiguity.

Pay

The annual full-time salary ranges for this role are as follows (part-time salaries will be prorated):

  • McLean, VA: $131,300 - $149,800
  • Richmond, VA: $119,400 - $136,200

Candidates hired for other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. This role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
