Principal Overhead Transmission Line Engineer
About the role
Jacobs is expanding its Transmission & Distribution (T&D) operations in North America and is looking for a Principal Overhead Transmission Line Engineer in its Energy & Power Group to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization to deliver a cleaner and more secure energy future. You will work closely with our regional and global T&D delivery teams to support utility/developer clients and operations teams as we expand our energy transition portfolio. You will play a crucial role in directly interfacing with utility/developer clients, development of design deliverables for utility upgrades including greenfield/brownfield projects, and developer interconnection facilities. With evolving needs during energy transition, Jacobs is often called upon as program managers to deliver major programs and overhauls of T&D networks. You will provide engineering overview, expertise, and direction while acting as an independent technical advisor representing owner's interests.
Responsibilities
- Interface directly with utility/developer clients
- Develop design deliverables for utility upgrades including greenfield/brownfield projects and developer interconnection facilities
- Understand client standards and design guidelines, provide feedback on their application, and develop design deliverables fully and independently as required for projects on-time and within budget
- Mentor team members across North America and globally with Jacobs Global Integrated Delivery (GID)
- Work with a cross functional team to support sales and proposal preparation for new contracts and committed high-quality delivery of services to clients
- Participate in industry conferences, seminars, trade shows, and networking events to promote company services and stay updated on industry innovations and advancements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within United States and ability to obtain additional PE licenses if needed
- Minimum 15 years of direct Overhead Transmission Line Engineering design experience with a utility or consulting organization
- Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the team
- Advanced knowledge of NESC, RUS, ASCE and other industry design specifications related to transmission line design
- Prior experience in development of detailed engineering deliverables including bill of materials, design criteria documents, stringing charts, structure drawings and assemblies
- Prior experience in development and review of Steel pole vendor specifications and Steel pole fabrication drawings
- Demonstrated ability to perform QA/QC of design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications
- Experience and proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower etc., with ability to train others
- Experience and proficiency with foundation design software like MFAD, LPile etc.
- Ability to perform project scoping, prepare task orders, design review of work by others, owner's compliance verifications
- Ability to perform field visits and walk-downs as required for client projects and providing engineering support for clients through construction
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Skills
- Prior experience as an owner's representative is a plus
- Experience with Microsoft suite applications and Auto CAD is preferred
- Provide guidance and mentor new hire engineers
- Involvement with professional societies such as ASCE, ACI, IEEE, PES and similar is a plus

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $155,600.00 to $204,225.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Schedule
This position can sit at any of our Jacobs office locations nationwide. Jacobs has a hybrid working policy, allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
