Principal or Sr. Principal Engineer Aeronautical - Crew and Equipment Design
Relocation assistance may be available. This position requires an active US Government Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. Travel is required, approximately 10% of the time. This role is fully onsite in Melbourne, FL with no remote work available.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal Crew and Equipment Design Engineer or Sr. Principal Crew and Equipment Design Engineer with experience in design and integration in the aerospace industry.
Responsibilities
- Develops Interface Control Documents (ICDs), creates layouts, machined parts, sheet metal details, and installations of system equipment (LRU).
- Uses NX for 3D Model-Based Definition and releases engineering packages using Teamcenter CPLM.
- Leads and/or mentors others while working independently under general supervision and as part of a large multi-disciplined team.
- Collaborates with inter-departmental vehicle sub-system departments including aircraft structure, electrical installation, hydraulics, environmental control systems, and manufacturing teams.
- Facilitates design reviews with key stakeholders to ensure designs meet requirements.
- Works with suppliers for integration activities.
- Attends internal program, customer, and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
Requirements
- Must have an active US Government Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.
- Experience leading others and delivering complex technical solutions within cost and schedule constraints across various phases of the engineering lifecycle.
- Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, and assembly drawings.
Qualifications
Principal Engineer (Level 3):
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) with at least 5 years of experience,
- Master’s degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or
- PhD in STEM with no experience.
Sr. Principal Engineer (Level 4):
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) with at least 8 years of experience,
- Master’s degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or
- PhD in STEM with 3 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active In-Scope US Government Top Secret clearance.
- Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience with the design, analysis, and integration of equipment/LRUs onto a platform.
- Experience with CAD software NX and Teamcenter PLM.
- Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures.
Pay
Primary Level (Principal Engineer) Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
Secondary Level (Sr. Principal Engineer) Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
The above salary ranges represent general guidelines. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
