About the Role
Direct and manage overall campus operations, providing leadership for the instructional program to ensure high standards of instruction and student achievement, compliance with district policies, effective application of instructional programs, and smooth operation of all campus activities.
Responsibilities
- Implements rigorous curricula and assessments aligned with state standards, including college and career readiness standards.
- Develops high-quality instructional practices among teachers to improve student performance.
- Monitors and analyzes multiple forms of student data to inform instructional and intervention decisions, maximizing student achievement.
- Ensures effective instruction maximizes growth of individual students and student groups, supports equity, and eliminates the achievement gap.
- Selects, places, and retains effective teachers and staff.
- Coaches and develops teachers and staff by providing individualized feedback and aligned professional development opportunities.
- Implements collaborative structures and provides leadership opportunities for effective teachers and staff.
- Observes employee performance, records observations, and conducts rigorous evaluations of all staff using multiple data sources.
- Acts as a problem solver, treating challenges as opportunities, and supports staff through changes.
- Proactively seeks and acts on feedback, reflects on personal growth areas, and accepts responsibility for mistakes.
- Tailors communication strategies to the audience and develops meaningful, positive relationships.
- Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators, demonstrating a moral imperative to educate all children.
- Develops and implements a shared vision of high expectations for students and staff.
- Establishes and monitors clear expectations for staff and student conduct, implementing social and emotional supports for students.
- Engages families and community members in student learning, encouraging parent and community involvement.
- Creates an atmosphere of safety that encourages the social, emotional, and physical well-being of staff and students.
- Uses a variety of student discipline techniques to meet behavioral and academic needs of individual students.
- Outlines and tracks clear goals, targets, and strategies aligned with a school vision to improve teacher effectiveness and student outcomes.
- Implements daily schedules and a year-long calendar that plan for regular data-driven instruction cycles and provide students access to diverse and rigorous course offerings.
- Aligns resources with the needs of the school and effectively monitors their impact on school goals.
- Collaborates with district staff to implement and advocate for district policies that meet the needs of students and staff.
- Develops the campus improvement plan (CIP) and campus budgets based on documented program needs.
- Maintains fiscal control, keeps programs within budget limits, and accurately reports fiscal information.
- Makes recommendations to the Superintendent on termination, suspension, or non-renewal of employees assigned to the campus.
- Conducts evaluation conferences with staff and conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
- Meets deadlines and works to attain goals set by the supervisor and/or superintendent.
- Complies with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting the schools.
- Maintains a professional code of ethics, presents a professional image, and serves as a role model for all district employees and the community.
- Participates in professional development appropriate to job assignment.
- Manages use of school facilities and supervises maintenance to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
- Ensures school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Follows established district safety procedures to perform job duties and supports district/campus goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master’s degree.
- Texas Mid-Management/Principalship certification.
- Appropriate certification for the evaluation of teachers.
- Four (4) years of professional educational experience, including three (3) years of teaching experience.
- One (1) year of administrative instructional leadership experience (three (3) years preferred).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, depending on campus needs.
- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness.
- Able to manage budget and personnel.
- Ability to coordinate campus functions.
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
Mental/Physical Demands
- Able to maintain emotional control under stress.
- Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting; movement of small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
- Occasional district-wide and statewide travel.
- Texas or New Mexico driver’s license; insurable by the District’s auto liability insurance carrier.
- Subject to the district’s drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.
