About the role
Hard Rock Digital is building the world’s best online sportsbook, casino, and social-gaming platform. As Principal Mobile Engineer you will own the technical direction for mobile experiences within the Promos domain, working within our shared React Native platform and contributing to related web and back-office experiences where needed. You will solve complex client-engineering problems, raise the engineering bar across teams, and remain hands-on with code while driving strategy, architecture, and cross-functional execution.
Responsibilities
- Technical strategy and architecture
- Own the mobile technical direction for the Promos domain, aligning with the shared React Native platform and supporting related web and back-office experiences.
- Partner with Principal and Staff Engineers and teams that own shared capabilities (geolocation, identity, security, compliance, platform services) to integrate those capabilities into Promos while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
- Guide architecture evolution and modernization, balancing product delivery, technical debt, and platform investment through pragmatic decisions, clear trade-offs, and measurable outcomes.
- Lead major restructuring work through planned iterative delivery: establish the target end state, decompose the initiative into sequenced tickets, surface dependencies and risks, and provide credible delivery dates that are updated as evidence changes.
- Promotional and client capabilities
- Build responsive and reliable promotional experiences across mobile and web, including offer discovery, eligibility, activation, state changes, and rewards, with clear recovery and correctness.
- Partner with Product, Data, Backend, and Operations to define promotion lifecycle, client contracts, experimentation, success measures, and operational controls across mobile, web, and back-office experiences.
- Set standards for deep links, attribution, analytics, CRM, and push across platforms (AppsFlyer, Segment, Amplitude, Braze, Firebase) with reliable identity and consent handling.
- Execution, quality, and operations
- Remain hands-on with the hardest problems, turning ambiguity into iterative delivery while delegating effectively and correcting work that is off course or not producing value.
- Model and raise a high bar for code review, using reviews to improve correctness, maintainability, shared understanding, and engineer growth.
- Advance standards for testing, CI/CD, accessibility, security, observability, App Store and Google Play delivery, controlled rollout, privacy, and incident readiness; treat performance as a measurable product requirement.
- Lead diagnosis across client, API, and platform boundaries using Sentry and correlated logs, traces, and metrics, turning incidents into systemic improvements.
- AI-enabled engineering
- Drive responsible adoption of AI-assisted development across discovery, implementation, testing, documentation, debugging, and review, measuring improvements to quality, speed, learning, and developer experience.
- Identify valuable product and operational uses for AI, assess feasibility and model risk, and establish guardrails for evaluation, confidential data, human accountability, and production safety.
- Organizational impact and culture
- Act proactively as a trusted technical advisor to Product and Engineering teams, identifying risks and opportunities early and using customer, operational, and market insight to make clear recommendations and drive decisions to closure.
- Mentor Senior and Staff Engineers through architectural guidance, reviews, pairing, and reusable knowledge; contribute technical perspective to senior hiring, capability planning, and career development.
- Resolve systemic risks, ownership gaps, and missing capabilities by bringing the right people together; lead change with calm ownership, constructive conflict, clear commitments, and learning without blame.
Requirements
- Typically 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years building production React Native applications, plus a degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Deep expertise in React Native architecture, React, and TypeScript, including strict type-safety practices, with a record of evolving frontend platforms, shared libraries, or design systems and establishing patterns adopted by multiple teams.
- Strong iOS and Android knowledge across native APIs, debugging, performance, security, deployment, and store delivery, including the ability to design or guide native-module bridges and safe JavaScript/native data flow.
- Expertise in real-time client systems and modern state management, including REST, GraphQL, WebSockets, resilience, caching, offline behavior, graceful degradation, and clear client/server state boundaries; MobX and TanStack React Query, or comparable technologies, are strongly valued.
- Experience architecting a shared mobile platform across multiple applications, brands, regions, environments, and delivery teams, with product configuration, jurisdiction-specific behavior, and feature-flag–driven rollout using LaunchDarkly or a comparable platform.
- Experience with relevant client integrations such as authentication, deep links, attribution, analytics, CRM, push notifications, privacy, or consent.
- Strong engineering judgment across testing, observability, CI/CD, feature management, performance, accessibility, privacy, and secure development for systems where reliability, compliance, security, or financial correctness are business-critical.
- Hands-on fluency with AI-assisted software development and a practical understanding of prompt/context design, evaluation, hallucination risk, privacy, security, and responsible human review.
- A record of shaping technical and product strategy, delivering ambiguous multi-team initiatives, and connecting investments to measurable customer and business outcomes without relying on formal authority.
- Excellent communication and proactive, low-ego leadership, including clear proposals, executive communication, productive conflict, sound decisions amid uncertainty, and effective mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Client experience in sportsbook, casino, online gaming, fintech, or another regulated digital industry.
- Experience with internal operational or back-office applications, including GraphQL, MSAL or comparable SSO, role-based access, audit trails, and workflow-heavy interfaces.
- Experience scaling client engineering through monorepos, shared tooling, design systems, developer platforms, or production AI practices.

- Competitive pay and benefits
- Flexible vacation allowance
- Flexible work-from-home or office hours
- Startup culture backed by a secure, global brand
- Opportunity to build products enjoyed by millions as part of a passionate team
