Principal Mechanical Engineer / Robotics / Automation

About the role

This client is a robotics-focused mechanical engineering company located just outside the Greater Boston area. They specialize in building advanced automated systems that integrate mechanical design, sensing, and motion control into high-performance machines.

Responsibilities

• Work across mechanical system design, actuation strategy, CAD, GD&T, FEA, and PLM workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to make key architectural decisions and ensure the mechanical system is manufacturable, reliable, and production-ready.

Requirements

• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in robotics and automation.
• Track record of taking electro-mechanical products from early concept through production.
• Strong understanding of motion systems including motors, actuators, and integrated sensing.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Onshape.
• Strong command of engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing.
• Familiarity with product lifecycle workflows including BOM management and revision control.
• Comfortable working hands-on with hardware to troubleshoot and refine designs.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience owning or influencing system-level design in robotics or automation platforms.
• Strong background in design for manufacturing and production-ready system design.
• Proficiency in analytical tools such as MATLAB or Python for system modeling.
