Principal IT Systems Engineer

This role combines hands-on engineering ownership with technical mentorship, ensuring GMP compliance, driving security and risk management initiatives, and setting standards for operational excellence while collaborating with security, engineering, and cross-functional teams.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a fast-growing, science-driven organization making a meaningful difference to patients worldwide. You will work on-site in Troy, New York, United States, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Responsibilities

• Proactively monitor and maintain Windows Server and virtualized environments, ensuring consistent performance, high availability, security, and resilience across network resources; conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Design, deploy, and maintain endpoint security strategies including EDR and AV solutions; drive improvements in EDR and Lifecycle Management to strengthen risk management capabilities across IT and OT environments.
• Maintain and update the IT Risk Register, tracking identified risks, mitigation efforts, and status; act as backup for Disaster Recovery planning and execution, maintaining continuity of risk management activities during critical events.
• Strengthen monitoring coverage, alert quality, and system-health visibility as part of the IOPS performance, alerting, and observability strategy.
• Partner with security teams to align IAM systems and infrastructure with organizational security policies and frameworks; implement and manage change control processes to uphold system integrity and GMP compliance.
• Produce regular status reports on risk metrics, mitigation progress, EDR/LCM updates, and operational KPIs; develop and maintain documentation of processes, procedures, and best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across the team, setting standards for design, troubleshooting, and operational excellence; serve as SME and escalation point for complex technical issues.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science or a related field.
• Principal IT Systems Engineer: 8+ years of relevant experience with data center technologies (VMware, NetApp, Dell EMC storage), backup solutions, and IT and Security operations.
• Staff IT Systems Engineer: 10+ years of relevant experience with data center technologies (VMware, NetApp, Dell EMC storage), backup solutions, and IT and Security operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SailPoint, CyberArk, Ivanti, and observability platforms such as Grafana, Nexthink, or Axonius.
• Experience with cloud platforms including AWS and Oracle; familiarity with High Performance Computing (HPC) a plus.
• Experience working in GMP environments and ensuring compliance with relevant standards preferred; knowledge of IT compliance guidelines including PIC/S, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and GAMP.
• Relevant certifications such as MCSE, VCP, CCNA, SailPoint, CyberArk, CISSP, CCSP, PMP, Security+, CySA+, or PenTest+.

Pay

Salary Range (annually): $92,200.00 - $176,000.00.
