- Provide guidance or assistance on complex transactions, new investment structures, and emerging regulatory requirements.
- Lead accounting, analysis, and reporting for a diversified investment portfolio, ensuring accuracy across SAP, GAAP, and management reporting frameworks as applicable.
- Assist in preparation or review of investment-related statutory reporting, including NAIC investment schedules, AVR/IMR reporting, RBC, investment footnotes, interrogatories, and related disclosures.
- Interpret and implement new NAIC statutory guidance, SSAP updates, and state regulatory requirements, proactively assessing organizational impacts and recommending appropriate accounting treatment.
- Partner with investment management, treasury, and executive leadership to evaluate accounting implications of investment strategies, portfolio transactions, and capital management initiatives.
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to investments, including investment income recognition, fair value measurements, impairments, OTTI analyses, unrealized gains and losses, and complex reconciliations.
- Prepare investment analysis and materials for monthly and quarterly management meetings.
- Design, enhance, and monitor internal controls supporting investment accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Drive automation, system optimization, and process transformation initiatives to improve efficiency, scalability, and reporting accuracy.
- Serve as a key liaison for external auditors, regulators, and examination teams, coordinating responses to technical accounting inquiries and regulatory reviews.
- Support enterprise-wide strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, portfolio restructurings, new investment programs, and system implementations.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff while providing thought leadership across the broader finance organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive investment accounting experience within the insurance industry, with demonstrated expertise in statutory accounting and regulatory reporting.
- Deep knowledge of NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), SSAPs, insurance investment schedules, and regulatory filing requirements.
- Extensive experience accounting for complex investment instruments, including structured securities, mortgage loans, derivatives, and alternative investments.
- Proven ability to research, interpret, and apply complex accounting guidance and regulatory standards.
- Experience leading audits, regulatory examinations, and enterprise-level accounting initiatives.
- Advanced proficiency in investment accounting platforms such as Clearwater, PAM, Eagle, Geneva, or similar systems.
- Expert-level Excel and data analytics capabilities, including large dataset analysis and process automation.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional projects, influencing senior stakeholders, and driving operational improvements.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, leadership, and executive presentation skills.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and risk awareness.
- Recognized technical expert capable of influencing accounting policy and organizational decision-making.
- Ability to lead through complexity and ambiguity while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and compliance.
- Proven track record of building scalable processes and enhancing organizational effectiveness.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively across finance, investments, operations, and executive leadership teams.
