Principal-in-Charge/Vice President - Public Works
About the role
The role is for a Principal-in-Charge/Vice President for Huitt-Zollars, Inc.'s Irvine office. The ideal candidate must have at least 10 years of experience as a registered Professional Engineer in California.
Responsibilities
- Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal.
- Identifies contacts/clients/opportunities for new work.
- Trains/mentors staff and reviews work for quality assurance.
- Grows the Federal and Institutional group.
- Interfaces daily with clients, develops proposals, negotiates scopes and fees, ensures timely billing and collections, and prepares change orders.
- Strategically plans Federal and Institutional marketing.
- Ensures the Project Manager and/or Project Teams have the resources necessary to meet scheduling and budget commitments on projects.
- Manages the preparation of design and construction drawings.
- Directs a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise.
- Plans, directs, and monitors all aspects of projects with a high degree of technical complexity.
- Reviews work and proposes changes to design, and to comply with building codes.
- Prepares a plan of action to resolve project issues.
- Serves as a technically sound design leader for clients.
- Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
- Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project.
- Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
- Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget.
- Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
- Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.
- Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance.
- Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm.
- Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
- Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.
Qualifications
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Must be a licensed PE in California with a minimum of 10 years of experience and 8 years of project management experience.
- Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports.
- Able to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.
- Able to train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance.
- Strong leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possesses a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, and Civil3D are all a plus.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented.
- Consistently delivers proactive communication with clients.
- When client issues arise, addresses or expeditiously escalates to discipline lead.
- Develops and maintains relationships with clients that allow for ease in communications and problem solving.
- Troubleshoots issues and recommends solutions, effectively implements and documents for internal and external stakeholders.

Pay
Annual Base Salary Range: $202,000-$220,000 and up depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s).
