About the role

Incorporate and consider sustainable design solutions into all projects.

Provide mentorship and professional development to staff working on the principal's projects and others as appropriate.

Provide internal training as requested or needed.

Achieve annual revenue-generation goals in specific markets or with targeted clients as set by the executive committee.

Lead proposal teams on RFP/RFQ responses to strategically win work and expand Browning Day’s network.

Partner with design leaders to promote congruent design practices internally and externally.

Strategic involvement in industry-focused organizations and memberships.

May serve on Business Development Committee by attending meetings, providing strategic insight, supporting business development initiatives, developing and executing new business plans, and reporting on progress.

Collaborate with project managers, production leadership, design leaders, and business development to review potential opportunities and ensure they align with business needs.

Negotiate contractual agreements on behalf of the firm that factor in risk assessments, liability standards, legal compliance, internal standards, and approval by the corporation's officers.

Execute practical handoffs on contract terms and design scopes to project managers before kickoff meetings—review project teams' performance with the Project Manager.

Manage client expectations and satisfaction. Be the liaison of client vision internally and oversee transitions of primary contacts to the client throughout the project.

Cultivate creative design solutions based on market, project, or client needs with the design team.

Proficiently sell and market Browning Day’s markets, services, and capabilities.

Support the firm's continuous improvement initiatives through collaboration with Operations & Management, the Executive Committee, the Business Development Manager, the Director of Operations, and the Director of Quality Management on standards, processes, or other evolving needs.

Responsible for project results. Work with Project Managers and the Studio Directors to ensure quality standards, schedule, budget, and design compliance. Mitigate risks and support the needs of the project through completion.

  • Proficient level of experience in the following is preferred: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Deltek Sketchup, Revit, AutoCAD, and 3D rendering software (Lumion).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, from an accredited institution, in the field of Architecture or Landscape Architecture.
  • Master's degree in a comparable field or comparable work experience is preferred.
  • Licensed Architect and Landscape Architect registered in Indiana.
  • Strong preference for individuals who have led small firms, worked in business development, or have a transferrable book of business.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of focused technical expertise and market expertise.
  • Leadership experience of 6+ years in a small firm, in a focused market, or business development in related industries.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background screening.
