About the role

Kleinfelder, a Forbes' Top Employer for Engineers in North America, is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer/Group Manager to lead the geotechnical team in Fresno, CA. This role involves managing and growing the Fresno geotechnical team, business development, and coordinating services with internal and external teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow the Fresno geotechnical team
  • Lead and mentor diverse project teams
  • Provide operational support and supervision
  • Perform geotechnical engineering design, construction support, and oversight
  • Maintain high client service standards
  • Ensure timely project completion and clear communication with clients and staff

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of related experience, with 15+ years preferred
  • Licensed professional civil engineer (PE) in California
  • Proven experience in business development, proposal preparation, and client relationships
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff
  • Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to clients
  • Experience in various geotechnical disciplines such as levee design, seepage analysis, slope stability, and foundation design
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with geotechnical exploration programs, material and site characterization, and foundation recommendations
  • Proficiency in preparing geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications
  • Experience in project management, budget management, and client updates
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems with practical, client-focused solutions
  • Knowledge of civil design team collaboration and value-engineering
  • Effective prioritization and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with leadership and project managers

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Licensed geotechnical engineer (GE) in California
  • Leadership in the field
  • Developing highly motivated individuals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience planning, implementing, and managing geotechnical exploration programs
  • Experience guiding staff engineers in material and site characterization, foundation recommendations, slope stability, and settlement analyses
  • Experience preparing geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications for various projects
  • Experience in budget management, client updates, and general project management tasks
  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical presentations
  • Experience supervising field observations, tests, and site visits
  • Ability to proactively troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Ability to interface with civil design teams
  • Thirst for learning and continuous improvement

Pay

The expected salary range for this role is $133,494 - $227,531. Final salary is based on individual qualifications and experience.
