Principal Engineer Substation
About the role
The Engineering & Construction Team is seeking a Principal Engineer – Substation to join their team. This role is a 1-year contract assignment (W-2) and involves working with project engineering resources, work plans, and lines of demarcation. The responsibilities include ensuring projects are cost-effectively and safely implemented, coordinating with other project stakeholders, and supporting engineering updates, data, and permits for substation design and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- All assigned substation projects for FERC 1000 RFP's and Early Stage Diligence Projects.
- In the conceptual phase, support the engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group.
- Train external engineers of record (EOR) for all assigned substation projects with due diligence and technical oversight.
- Secure engineering consulting resources from approved suppliers by developing scopes of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
- Competitively source, select, and contract geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services, and support the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions.
- Manage all project long lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding the project budget.
- Aid ISC with all substation project Statement of Work (SOW) creation, review, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials in a timely manner.
- Support E&C Estimating with template updates via project feedback, technical support, and scope modifications.
- Support technical Request for Proposal (RFP) narrative development.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects.
- HVDC experience is helpful.
- Project Engineering and Project Management experience.
- PMP or P.E. in related discipline is helpful.
- Some travel required within North America.

Base salary range: $55.00/hr. to $60.00/hr.
