Principal Engineer - Operational Technology
About the role
The Principal Security Engineer for Operational Technology (OT) plays a critical role in securing Target's operational tech across supply chain, stores, and corporate offices. This role involves designing, building, and scaling security solutions to mitigate risks and manage findings.
Responsibilities
- Define security requirements and assess risk across multiple business lines, applications, and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies using deep engineering and technical expertise.
- Lead both technical and strategic planning initiatives, collaborating with various business teams.
- Act as a mentor and leader, upleveling the team's knowledge in security concepts, OT, and engineering best practices.
- Own enterprise-wide security projects, including project planning, stakeholder identification, and progress communication.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information security, computer science, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of engineering experience in information security domains.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in Operational Technology (OT) or Internet-of-Things (IOT) security.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in network architecture, network design, or network segmentation.
- 5+ years of experience leading both technical and strategic planning and strategy.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in information security, computer science, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- Experience designing, developing, and scaling security solutions that enable developers and technology solutions to be "secure-by-default."
- Experience harmonizing and aligning business needs with security requirements to ensure proper identification and management of security threats and risks.
- Executive-level communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate technical topics to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience with both on-prem and cloud-based infrastructure, including familiarity with common security tooling and frameworks.
- Relevant security industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, OSCP, etc.).
Skills
- Experience with AI tools to improve the effectiveness of security mechanisms.
- Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) Security standards such as ISA/IEC 62443 or NIST SP 800-82 Rev 3.
- Experience with common security tooling (e.g., SIEM, DLP, IDS, IPS, etc.).
- Experience with common security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, PCI-DSS, etc.).

Pay
The pay range for this role is $168,000.00 - $303,000.00, based on factors including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
Schedule
This role operates as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement, requiring core role performance both onsite at the Target HQ MN location and virtually, depending on role, team, and task requirements.
