About the role

As a Principal Engineer, you will create client solutions based on business requirements. You will mentor and assist the entire Network Engineering (NE) team in the development and implementation of client solutions. The scope of the solutions involves advanced networks (SDWAN, Autonomous, Campus and LAN switching), data center, security, and virtualization technologies, as well as development of fault and performance management policies and automation rules.

You will engage proactively with clients at all levels, serve as an escalation engineer, and drive technology lifecycle development and planning with internal and external stakeholders. The role includes ownership of standard and custom solution development initiatives, mentoring the engineering team, and collaborating with Engineering, PMO, Verizon Product Development, and delivery/support teams to develop and implement client project designs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and support solutions involving WAN, LAN, WLAN, VoIP, Data Analytics, Security, and Virtual technologies (e.g., Virtualization, SDN, NFV).
  • Analyze, evaluate, and communicate network capacity and performance data to drive improvements in customer networks.
  • Oversee customer network documentation, including solution design documents, records of change, and network diagrams.
  • Serve as the escalation engineer to Tier 3 support for customer incidents.
  • Deliver presentations and demonstrations related to technology, processes, or client solutions.
  • Own solution designs and resolve critical issues as an escalation engineer.
  • Provide mentoring, technical training, and support for Lifecycle Engineering and Implementation Engineering teams.
  • Ensure the protection of Verizon customer proprietary network information and Verizon information assets.
  • Position may require after-hours support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work, military experience, or specialized training.

Skills

You have a thorough working knowledge of the following technologies:

  • Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, OMP, Static Routes, Policy Routing, Route redistribution).
  • Switching (Spanning-Tree, VLANs, Trunking, EtherChannel).
  • QoS (Traffic Shaping, Route-maps, etc.).
  • Security (AAA configuration, Certificates, Network Address Translation (NAT), Access Control Lists (ACLs), VRF segmentation).
  • Cisco SDWAN (Topology Build, Template Creation, HA Configuration, SDWAN, DIA Concepts – Guest Service, Direct Internet Service, Cloud Services, etc.).
  • Wireless/WiFi (WAPS, Wireless Controllers (WLCs), Wireless site surveys, heat map generation).
  • WAN Technologies (MPLS, Broadband, Wireless/5G/LTE/FWA/CradlePoint, Satellite (StarLink)).
  • VoIP (IP Phones, Gateways, ATAs).
  • F5 Load Balancer (LTM) and F5 VCMP technologies.
  • Cloud – Verizon (Secure Cloud Interconnect (SCI), Verizon Software Defined Interconnect (SDI) (Equinix), Cisco SDWAN Cloud Onramp for Multicloud).
  • Network Troubleshooting.

Additional preferred skills:

  • Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a Technology-related field.
  • Ability to lead and drive projects to completion while balancing multiple work assignments.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in diverse teams.

Schedule

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, as set by your manager. Scheduled weekly hours: 40.

Pay

The annual salary range for this position based on a full-time schedule is $107,000.00 - $187,000.00, depending on location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive-based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, compensation will be adjusted to reflect hours worked.
