About the role

The Principal Engineer is responsible for working independently, representing AVANGRID in industry associations, and applying established distribution planning criteria to identify and address system deficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex and unique Distribution Planning and Reliability issues, including large scale customer load additions and complex DER interconnections.
  • Develop scoping documents for complex distribution system improvement projects and propose solutions for identified distribution issues.
  • Anticipate and recommend process improvements for internal and external business issues.
  • Manage divisional and company-wide projects/studies/initiatives, serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME), and lead teams across AVANGRID.
  • Lead teams, act as an experienced mentor, and provide direction to resources outside the department.
  • Make presentations to regulatory/public entities and explain difficult concepts to influence others.
  • Utilize computer aided analysis tools to identify system deficiencies and plan for system reinforcements and DER system impact studies.
  • Perform complex engineering analyses for locating and determining the settings for distribution automation equipment.
  • Assist during storm restoration and lead teams/projects or program initiatives across multiple OpCos that solve complex problems.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with 10 years of relevant experience, advanced degree and/or PE License preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues.
  • Thorough theoretical and practical engineering knowledge, including Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytics, Modeling & Calculation, and Construction.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment: Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and Requirements (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC, etc.).
  • Software proficiency in Power System Analytics tools such as CYME, PSS/E, SYNERGY, ASPEN, etc.

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Advanced Degree and/or PE License desired
  • Experience in Distribution Planning, Reliability Engineering, and Distributed Energy Resources (DER)

Skills

  • Ability to utilize computer aided analysis tools to identify system deficiencies and plan for system reinforcements and DER system impact studies.
  • Proficient in performing complex engineering analyses for locating and determining the settings for distribution automation equipment.
  • Experience in leading teams, acting as an experienced mentor, and providing direction to resources outside the department.

Commensurate with experience.

Pay

The base salary for this position is dependent upon experience and location ranging from $128,000 to $160,400.
