Principal Engineer, Instrumentation and Controls

About the role

We are seeking a Contract Principal Instrument and Control System Engineer to join our project team in Houston, Texas. This position will report to the Director of Instrumentation and Controls and will be part of the team responsible for ensuring that the Plant Instrumentation and Control Systems operate as per design, in a safe and reliable manner with minimal downtime.

The role is based in the office Monday – Friday.

Responsibilities

• Apply technical expertise to support design, installation, commissioning, and operation of instrument and controls systems as subject matter expert.
• Troubleshoot and solve controls logic and communication issues.
• Participate in check out of cause and effects, complex loops, etc.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering, preferably with specialization in Process Control, Control systems, Control Narratives, Cause and Effects, and Instrumentation.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience working with instrumentation and control systems.
• Experience with Plant Instrumented Control and Safety Systems (e.g., Distributed Control Systems such as Mark VIe & Emerson Delta V, Safety Systems such as Mark VIe and HIMA, Fire and Gas Systems, and Programmable Logic Controllers including Allen Bradley, Siemens, Emerson/GE, etc.).
• Operational Technology Networks and Fiber Optic Network Design.
• Field Instrumentation for process measurement (e.g., Pressure, Temperature, Level, Flow, etc.).
• Fire and Gas systems, Control Valves, Shutdown Valves (Air, Gas, and Motor Operated), Analyzers (H₂S, Moisture, etc.).
• Gas Chromatographs, CEMS, Flow Metering Systems (Ultrasonic, Coriolis, Differential Pressure, etc.) and their transmission systems (e.g., 4-20mA, Hart, ProfiBus, etc.).
• Alarm Management Systems including management of alarm databases and audits against Operating systems.
• Power generation systems, Gas and Steam Turbines, Generators, HRSG, ACC.
• Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).
• P&ID review and development of I&C Scope.
• Industry standards, such as NFPA, API, ISA, ASME.
• Experience in LNG liquefaction facilities highly preferred.
