Department 476 Waterfront Engineering at Quonset Point is seeking highly motivated Principal level candidates to provide technical leadership for second shift structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical construction activities for VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class. The department’s main goal is to provide timely, high quality technical leadership for all manufacturing activities at the Quonset Point facility. D476 is responsible for the resolution of design issues, troubleshooting construction problems, technical support for manufacturing operations, verification and certification of as-built dimensions and configurations, and implementation of process improvements. Individuals selected for this position will be providing deck plate engineering in the form of Change Requests, Change Notices, UNSATs, Engineering Reports, and other engineering documents to support the construction schedule and module ship out. In addition, engineers in D476 are exposed to various aspects of submarine deck plate construction which provide opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer. Hands-on engineering is permitted at Quonset Point. Second shift differential increase, Reduced commuting traffic, Improved parking availability. Required Qualifications BS or higher in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering15+ years of post-graduate engineering experiencePrevious experience with the design, development, construction, and/or operation of submarine systems, components, or structuresExperience with submarine mechanical, structural, electrical, and piping systems, components or design processes/productsExperience with mechanical/structural/piping design, evaluation, and/or constructionExperience with trouble-shooting and technical problem solvingExperience with task or project managementThe ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance Preferred Experience with providing deck-plate engineering construction supportExperience dispositioning Engineering Reports or Change NoticesKnowledge of VIRGINIA/COLUMBIA Class ship design and arrangement – including new design (VPM) programs Skills Develop and maintain relationships with Operations personnelWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Excel, PowerPoint, and WordNX and TeamcenterCandidates must be able to take initiative and work independentlyCandidates must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skillsCandidates must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environmentThis position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined spaces Physical Qualifications Climbing, Crawling, Kneeling, Stooping Environmental Attributes Cold, Dry, Dusty, Fumes, Hot, Inside
