About the role

We are looking for a technical leader who can set an inspiring vision and strategy, collaborate with partners, mentor other technical leaders, and improve the architecture and technical excellence of an organization. You should have strong AI fluency and understand how modern AI capabilities are changing software, architecture, and business strategy. While you do not need to be an AI specialist, you should be able to evaluate where AI can create real value, understand its trade-offs and risks, and help teams incorporate it thoughtfully into the broader technical strategy while staying up to date with industry advancements.

As a Principal Engineer at Suralink, you will play a pivotal role at the intersection of technical strategy and leadership. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic insight, requiring you to drive architectural coherence across teams and foster alignment with our broader business objectives. You will set long-term technical visions, shift architectural momentum when necessary, and guide teams toward shared, impactful outcomes. Your work will influence and shape both software architecture and organizational structure, reflecting the understanding that at this senior level, technical strategy and people leadership are inseparable concerns. You'll navigate ambiguity to define clear paths forward, leveraging your judgment and deep experience to create elegant solutions that scale effectively. This role demands exceptional communication skills—you'll articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including engineers, product teams, and senior executives, ensuring alignment and coherence across all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Set architecture vision and strategy for a group of teams working together to deliver a common vision
• Drive architectural decisions or patterns through their full lifecycle, including implementation, adoption, and measurable business or technical impact
• Help teams apply AI thoughtfully in product, architecture, and engineering workflow decisions
• Develop highly available services at scale
• Collaborate across teams and leaders, indirectly influence others in a positive way, and navigate difficult conversations and decisions
• Mentor and guide engineers, helping develop and grow technical leaders
• Create and communicate a vision or plan as an inspiring leader
• Make tough trade-off decisions with a long-term view of customer needs

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience building and shipping production-grade software or services
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and principles
• Experience setting architecture vision and strategy for multiple teams
• Experience driving architectural decisions through full lifecycle (implementation, adoption, impact)
• Experience helping teams apply AI thoughtfully in product and engineering workflows
• Experience developing highly available services at scale
• Ability to collaborate across teams and leaders, and navigate difficult conversations
• Strong communication skills for diverse audiences (engineers, executives, customers)
• Experience and passion for mentoring engineers and growing technical leaders
• Strategic thinker with customer focus and product understanding
• 15+ years of experience building distributed services

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS, React, Node.js, TypeScript, PHP, MySQL, or NoSQL databases
• Experience with Cursor or Claude Code/Cowork
