Principal Engineer (AI Engineer Lead)
The role
The Principal Engineer (AI Engineer Lead) is responsible for applying and integrating advanced statistical, mathematical, predictive modeling and business analysis for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) function.
How you will make an impact
- Affords strategic initiatives of data analysis, systems data sets, and advanced data sources.
- Develops leading edge theories, techniques, and/or technologies within the AI function.
- Collaborates and publishes research in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals or external conferences to make significant contributions to the AI community.
Minimum Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.) or equivalent degree and 10 or more years of experience; or any combination of education and experience in configuration management, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences
- Hands-on experience with Agentic AI and MCP highly preferred.
- Experience creating Agents, Multi-Agent reasoning and Multi-Agent architecture highly preferred.

Workplace
We offer a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process.
