About the role

Thompson Software Solutions is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of advanced software systems for a military aircraft platform. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to mission-critical avionics and embedded capabilities that enable the performance, safety, and effectiveness of next-generation military aviation systems.

In this role, you will work independently at times on projects, and at other times in a collaborative team environment with other software engineers and program development teams. Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must maintain eligibility for access to classified information throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and test software products using technical principles, theories, and concepts in the software field.
  • Work on embedded application development in Linux (Yocto/RHEL), Windows, and Bare Metal environments.
  • Perform software integration and testing in lab and hardware environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of embedded software development experience.
  • C++ development for safety-critical avionics systems.
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (MOSA.ic, VxWorks, Integrity).
  • Ability to work onsite 100% of the time.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • Active Secret Clearance required.

Skills

  • Proficient with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, etc.).
  • Version control and issue tracking (GitLab, Atlassian suite).
  • Flight software development experience.
  • Proficient in Python development.
  • Familiarity with software requirements development using Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools (e.g., Cameo).
  • Digital simulation (SIL/MIL/HIL) and closed-loop testing.
  • Hardware/software integration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with safety-critical software development and practices (DO-178C).
  • Experience with Navigation, Guidance, and Control Implementation.
  • Experience with Signal Processing Implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment.

Pay

$160,000 - $200,000 + Bonus Eligible
