Principal, Electronics Hardware Design Architect

About the Role

This position is within the Center of Excellence (CoE) in the CTO North America Organization, providing Power Electronics Hardware expertise to the wider organization. The role involves interacting with multiple teams across different Business Units and expertise groups, focusing on power systems and electrical distribution design. The candidate will lead innovation and technical work packages for emerging applications such as Power Conversion Units (modules or equipment) for the New Energy Landscape (DC applications like battery charging, Datacenter, Prosumer/AC Microgrid, etc.) and solid-state/hybrid circuit breakers, from topology and devices to safety and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work on complex problems requiring in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Drive and manage studies and investigations within global streams and projects.
  • Engage actively with external partners, labs, and consortiums to foster innovation.
  • Deliver design elements using established processes and best practices.
  • Architect offers/subsystems from Technical Specifications to meet Customer Value expectations.
  • Develop and reinforce technical leadership in Power Electronics Hardware.
  • Lead system design, component selection, and circuit design.
  • Employ simulation tools (e.g., Matlab/Simulink) for circuit modeling and analysis.
  • Support testing and validation efforts as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, control/firmware engineers, and electro-mechanical engineers.
  • Contribute to technical excellence and influence the technical direction on Power Electronics Hardware.
  • Develop and deploy innovation in Power Electronics, including research, platforming, standardization, trends, partnerships, intellectual property, and reference documents.
  • Provide technical expertise to support interactions with end-customers and resolve offer issues.
  • Contribute to the promotion of strategy through papers, blogs, or conference materials.
  • Participate in international and multi-organization technical communities and cross-functional networks.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics (preferred), or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in Power Electronics, including product design engineering.
  • Expertise in power electronics topologies and design.
  • Experience in designing power conversion systems in LV (less than 1000V, 3-phase) with power ratings from 50kVA to several MVA.
  • Experience or understanding of Solid State Circuit Breakers and MV power electronics (e.g., Solid State Transformers) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools like Matlab/Simulink.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards.
  • Application knowledge is an added value.

Pay

The expected pay range for this U.S.-based position is USD 142,400 - USD 213,600 per year, including base pay and short-term incentives.
