About the role

Johnson Controls is searching for a Principal Electronics Engineer to join the R&D facility in Westford, MA. In this role, you will design electronic analog and digital hardware for new fire alarm products and support existing product lines. This position is based in Westford, MA, and candidates must be within commuting distance or able to relocate. Various relocation packages are available.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze analog and digital circuits
  • Develop microcontroller and embedded system designs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceive, develop, and release new products to production
  • Generate creative solutions to product needs in a team environment
  • Possibly lead small cross-functional teams of electrical and mechanical engineers, overseeing costing, scheduling, and design requirements
  • Work closely with Product Management to determine product specifications
  • Design equipment to meet agency certifications (UL, ULC, CE, FCC)
  • Research new technologies applicable to fire alarm products

Work may include:

  • Analog design and small signal/instrumentation circuitry
  • Switch mode and linear power supplies
  • Front panel user interfaces and audio amplifiers
  • Peer-to-peer networking
  • Sensors, detectors, and fiber optics

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in electronics design related to analog, power, audio, or embedded products/systems
  • Low-current analog design experience
  • Electronic component-level knowledge and experience
  • Experience with electronic CAD (schematic capture, circuit simulation, or related)
  • Experience transitioning products to manufacturing

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Power supply design and microprocessors/embedded system design
  • Experience with Data Acquisition systems and lab equipment automation
  • Mechanical design support experience
  • Experience with optics/physics
  • Fire Detection product industry experience

Pay

Hiring salary range: $130,000 - $150,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market alignment. This role includes a competitive bonus plan based on individual, group, and corporate performance, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
