Principal Electrical Motor Design Engineer
About the Role
Our client is expanding a highly specialized engineering team responsible for the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of large AC traction motors and generators used in demanding industrial applications around the world. These are large-scale electric drive systems measured in hundreds of kilowatts and megawatts where reliability, durability, manufacturability, and performance are critical.
This role offers significant technical ownership, visibility, and long-term growth potential within a growing electrification engineering organization focused on advanced electric drive technologies and rotating equipment development. You'll work alongside experienced mechanical, manufacturing, testing, and electrical engineering professionals to help design and develop highly engineered motor and generator platforms used in some of the world's most demanding environments.

Responsibilities
- Lead electromagnetic design of large AC motors and generators
- Define performance requirements including torque, efficiency, durability, and thermal performance
- Develop stator, rotor, winding, insulation, and cooling system designs
- Support prototype development and product validation
- Partner closely with manufacturing and testing organizations
- Analyze performance data and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and field-related issues
- Support product testing and validation activities
- Develop technical documentation and engineering specifications
- Provide technical leadership on complex development programs
Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience designing large AC motors, generators, or rotating equipment
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic design principles
- Experience supporting manufacturing and testing activities
- Knowledge of insulation systems, thermal performance, and electric machine optimization
- Experience with Maxwell, JMAG, Motor-CAD, ANSYS, or similar software platforms
- Strong communication and technical leadership skills
