About the Role

The Electrical Analysis - Northeast section of the Materials & Process Engineering Department is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer - Failure Analysis. This role supports programs by performing electrical component evaluations and root cause failure analysis, focusing on devices ranging from simple passive components to complex microcircuits, as well as cables, connectors, motors, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct end-to-end failure analysis, including:
    • External visual photo-documentation
    • Electrical testing and non-destructive troubleshooting
    • Environmental testing and X-ray evaluation
    • Destructive testing, decapsulation, and cross-sections
    • Internal visual photo-documentation
    • Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) evaluation
    • Writing detailed final reports
  • Operate laboratory equipment such as:
    • Microscopes, oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, LCR analyzers
    • Curve tracers, semiconductor parameter analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers
    • Frequency generators, signal generators, power meters, hi-pot testers, megohmmeters
    • Laser millers, plasma etchers, chemical jet etchers, bond pullers
  • Manage multiple analyses concurrently.
  • Collaborate with engineers in other disciplines, such as materials and chemistry.
  • Research, investigate, and experiment with new failure analysis techniques.
  • Analyze electrical schematics, circuit performance, RF analysis, and die-level materials (e.g., metal wire bonding, substrates, solder, adhesives, encapsulants).

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued DoD Secret security clearance (active clearance required after day 1).
  • Typically requires:
    • A university degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or
    • An advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in failure analysis and using electrical test equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of reading electrical schematics and circuit analysis.
  • Familiarity with component data sheets and drawings.
  • Strong data collection and presentation skills for report writing and findings.
  • Technical working knowledge of electrical components and their applications.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD. The range reflects all experience levels and considers factors such as role, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
