Annual Salary Range: $110,900 - $170,720 (commensurate with education and experience)

About the Role

The Principal Engineer (Electrical) works autonomously to perform advanced, complex critical technical functions with an emphasis in project management to execute BPMI's mission. Responsibilities include preparation of system performance and test specifications, verification and approval of supplier designs, engineering follow-through manufacturing, test, and installation, resolution of fielded equipment problems, and extensive communications with customer and supplier personnel. Responsibilities span from system concept through end of system life.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee complex critical electrical engineering projects and initiatives.
  • Identify and complete performance measures, including root cause and post-job assessments.
  • Meet project and scheduler requirements.
  • Communicate status on a periodic basis to management and design team.
  • Resolve technical, logistical, and funding issues in area of cognizance.
  • Prepare specifications for the design, testing, and qualification of new equipment or upgrades of fielded equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance for field operations.
  • Lead other engineers performing related phases of the technical work to ensure integration of activities and plans.
  • Mentor and train lower-level employees.
  • Initiate, plan, perform, and lead complex analytical evaluations, which may include the development and application of computer models and resolution of issues.
  • Prepare revisions to technical manuals, reports, or procedures in accordance with NR Program quality standards.
  • Lead the design, development, execution, and implementation of complex engineering research and design projects.
  • Play a key role in technical negotiations with suppliers; conduct production reviews and quality surveillance.
  • Review and approve supplier designs and supporting technical reports on assigned components and equipment; develop and implement methods to improve supplier performance.
  • Perform design for affordability reviews and prepare cost estimates; perform analyses and evaluations of supplier designs for material suitability, reliability, and integrity.
  • Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions, or obtaining approval.
