About the role

This opportunity is suited to an experienced electrical engineering professional supporting capital projects from detailed design through commissioning and startup in a complex industrial environment. The role focuses on QA/QC of engineering deliverables, electrical system design assurance, and close collaboration across multi-discipline project teams. It offers exposure to high-voltage substations, power system modelling, protective relays, and commissioning activities, with frequent travel to operating facilities and occasional vendor visits.

Responsibilities

  • Support capital projects from detailed design through commissioning and startup
  • Perform QA/QC of engineering deliverables
  • Provide electrical system design assurance
  • Collaborate across multi-discipline project teams
  • Interface with operations, contractors, vendors, and plant management
  • Review design deliverables, procurement packages, supplier documentation, technical deviations, and electrical testing activities
  • Review and comment on specifications, data sheets, detailed design deliverables, protection schemes, equipment ratings, hazardous area classification documents, and power system studies including short circuit, arc-flash, and load flow
  • Travel frequently to operating facilities and occasional vendor visits

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering programme
  • 10+ years of direct experience with high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical power systems, high-voltage cable systems, variable frequency drives, synchronous motors, and the application and programming of protective relays
  • Experience supporting engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities within a complex industrial or plant environment
  • Experience reviewing design deliverables, procurement packages, supplier documentation, technical deviations, and electrical testing activities
  • Experience working across multi-discipline project teams and interfacing with operations, contractors, vendors, and plant management
  • Strong technical knowledge of power system modelling using ETAP and associated reporting
  • Knowledge of power system harmonics, utility interfaces, and IEEE 519 requirements
  • Technical understanding of high-voltage substations, transmission lines, cable systems, gas insulated switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, low-voltage and medium-voltage distribution switchgear, lighting, and DC systems
  • Ability to review and comment on specifications, data sheets, detailed design deliverables, protection schemes, equipment ratings, hazardous area classification documents, and power system studies including short circuit, arc-flash, and load flow
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Excellent planning, organisational, troubleshooting, analytical, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work safely, efficiently, and effectively with minimal guidance and direction
  • Ability to wear necessary PPE and work across office and industrial plant environments, including confined spaces and elevated heights where required
  • Transportation Worker Identification Card (Required)
  • Valid, unexpired driver licence (Required)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience with high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical power systems, including gas insulated circuit breakers, air insulated switchyard equipment, gas insulated switchgear, harmonic filters, essential generators, illumination systems, grounding, ground potential rise, lightning protection, and bonding
  • Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories equipment
  • Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Texas
