About the Role

The Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) department at Raytheon is seeking a Principal Digital Hardware Design Engineer to join our team in McKinney, TX. In this role, you will leverage advanced technologies to create cutting-edge solutions for sensor and effector products. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to define requirements, develop architectures, execute detailed design and simulations, and perform integration and verification tasks. This is an onsite position requiring an active and existing DoD Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Drive requirements decomposition and lead trade studies to define architecture at the circuit card and/or sub-system level.
  • Design, analyze, test, and document digital electronics circuit card assemblies, including embedded processors, FPGAs, memories, and interfaces like PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Collaborate with ECAD drafters on stack-up definition, pre/post-route simulation, layout, and routing activities.
  • Plan and execute integration and verification activities in engineering laboratories.
  • Provide product testing, troubleshooting, and root cause failure investigation support.
  • Define schedules for circuit card and sub-system tasks, manage risks, and ensure execution aligns with budget and schedule.
  • Lead medium-sized teams, coach junior engineers, and serve as a subject-matter expert.
  • Support customer interactions, contribute to technology roadmaps, and improve processes, systems, or products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Significant design experience with complex embedded devices (microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, high-speed transceivers).
  • Robust experience maturing design concepts from block diagrams or requirements to complete, verified digital designs.
  • Expertise with schematic capture/circuit board layout CAD packages.
  • Experience with standard lab equipment for hardware integration and verification testing.

Valued Qualifications

  • Advanced degree(s) in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
  • Experience with circuit card stack-level design, considering thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability, and quality concerns.
  • Embedded test techniques, design for test, design for manufacturing, and design margin analysis experience.
  • Formal design process experience for circuit card assemblies.
  • Advanced knowledge of high-speed protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, memory interfaces).
  • Experience with Siemens Xpedition (xDX Designer, xPCB Layout, Hyperlynx) and complex multi-lamination circuit card assemblies (16–32 layers).
  • FPGA code development, system-level power architecture trades, and technical documentation experience.
  • Team leadership, project management, and mentorship of junior engineers.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) match and flexible spending accounts.
