Principal DCIM - Controls Build Quality Engineer (CBQE)
About the role
The Regional Principal DCIM – Controls Build Quality Engineer (CBQE) is a key on-site leader responsible for ensuring the successful, high-quality implementation of Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), PLC systems, and SCADA platforms for new data center construction projects.
Responsibilities
- System Integrator Oversight
- Select, evaluate, and commercial review of General Contractor System Integrators (CSI) and controls contractors.
- Lead and manage CSI performance throughout all project phases, including calibrations, quality assurance, and resolution of escalated issues.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for system integrator quality concerns and drive issue resolution to closure.
- Project Leadership & Management
- Onboard and lead General Contractor BMS Leads, CSI, and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) controls contractors.
- Support commercial terms and conditions review and evaluation.
- Coordinate and manage packaged equipment factory-installed controls audits and BMS commissioning audits, tracking deficiencies to completion.
- Facilitate large multi-stakeholder meetings and weekly cross-functional (XFN) meetings with internal and external teams to align on project status, risks, and next steps.
- Review, understand, and ensure project-level adherence to the issued revision of the DIV25 specification and all design deliverables.
- Quality Assurance & Standardization
- Drive consistency and standardization across all buildings, system integrators, and installation contractors, ensuring alignment with QTS standards and specifications.
- Perform BMS, PLC, and SCADA inspections (wiring, installation, commissioning) and validate project status and progress.
- Ensure the quality and functionality of BMS and SCADA implementations, including graphical interface alarms, trends, and graphics.
- Provide on-site commissioning (Cx) support, including vendor calibrations and witness testing.
- Support the project benchmark and mock-up process to ensure consistency.
- Work with Construction Managers and General Contractors to ensure the creation, accuracy, and maintenance of logical schedules for all controls activities.
- Risk Mitigation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with controls architecture, including single points of failure and redundancy requirements.
- Support custom tooling and integration into construction processes.
- Support cross-functional program initiatives that impact controls delivery.
- Leverage project data to identify early finish dates for detailed design delivery.
- Documentation & Issue Management
- Manage issue resolution from identification to closure, ensuring all issues are documented, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner.
- Support RFI creation, tracking, and timely closure.
- Document and communicate controls-related issues and resolutions to all stakeholders.
- Site Visits & Field Activities
- Conduct regular site visits to assess installation quality, commissioning progress, and system integrator performance.
- Provide hands-on support for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of BMS, PLC, and SCADA systems.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls programming/installation, general contractor MEP coordination/project management, and commissioning (mechanical and electrical) of data centers or other large-scale mission-critical buildings.
- 3+ years of experience with programming/designing HVAC control systems and electrical power monitoring.
- Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent) or relevant work experience.
- Experience with industrial automation and building management control systems (PLC/DDC).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Autodesk, CxAlloy, ACC Build, and Procore platforms.
- Experience with PLC, SCADA, and OPC UA systems.
- Certifications: cGMP, CAP (Certified Automation Professional), PMP (Project Management Professional).
- Experience with Rockwell and Inductive Automation Ignition platforms.
