About the Role

Provides strategic oversight and leadership for the construction of data centers by colocation providers, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Oversees documentation, quality control processes, and the startup and commissioning phases of major data center projects. Identifies critical gaps in risk identification and mitigation and drives organizational initiatives to address them. Serves as the primary point of contact between the company and colocation providers, managing vendor contracts and ensuring compliance. This role is based in the El Paso, TX/Las Cruces, NM area and requires residency in the area. Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

  • Construction Project Management - Project Planning and Execution:
    • Develops, maintains, and provides executive oversight for comprehensive project schedules, ensuring strategic coordination with colocation providers.
    • Leads and oversees the strategic creation, management, and optimization of project budgets for cost-effective delivery.
    • Oversees the creation, review, and maintenance of documentation, including design review, commissioning, and problem-solving papers.
  • Construction Project Management - Project Integration and Quality Assurance:
    • Directs the implementation and oversight of quality control processes to ensure construction activities meet design specifications and industry standards.
    • Strategizes and leads the coordination and integration of tenant fit-out projects across design, construction, and commissioning phases.
    • Conducts strategic site walks to ensure schedule adherence, coordination, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Provides executive oversight and strategic leadership for the startup and commissioning phases of major data center projects.
  • Risk and Problem Management:
    • Leads the evaluation of risk profiles associated with timely project delivery across a portfolio of projects.
    • Identifies critical gaps in risk identification and mitigation and drives organizational-wide initiatives to address them.
    • Develops and ensures the execution of comprehensive mitigation strategies for major construction project risks.
  • Stakeholder and Vendor Management:
    • Serves as the primary point of contact between the company and colocation providers, addressing strategic issues and acting as the liaison for escalated matters.
    • Develops and maintains strategic relationships to support internal and external stakeholders at a high level.
    • Oversees the selection, negotiation, and management of contracts with external vendors, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring compliance and performance.
  • Design Coordination and Improvement:
    • Directs collaboration with design teams to ensure construction activities align with approved design plans and specifications.
    • Provides high-level colocation provider evaluation input for continuous improvement.
    • Oversees the installation of power, cooling, networking, and structured cabling systems, resolving high-stakes installation challenges.
  • Core Responsibilities:
    • Manages timelines, deliverables, and budgets for critical high-impact projects or initiatives.
    • Anticipates and plans for shifts in resources or timelines based on changing business priorities.
    • Influences cross-functional leaders and external stakeholders to gain alignment on strategic objectives.
    • Fosters partnerships with key business leaders, stakeholders, and customers to expand opportunities.
    • Leads specialized, advanced problem-solving efforts and serves as an escalation point for complex issues.
    • Guides teams to leverage innovative, data-driven techniques for addressing ambiguous or novel issues.
    • Develops innovative solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness of processes and workflows.
    • Evaluates the effectiveness of updated approaches and designs metrics to measure success.
    • Serves as a subject matter expert regarding talent needs and organizational talent strategy.
    • Contributes to the advancement of the field through thought leadership (e.g., conference presentations, white papers).
    • Maintains expertise in relevant areas by monitoring emerging trends, technologies, and industry standards.
    • Champions continuous learning and knowledge sharing across teams.

Requirements

Candidates must reside in or be able to relocate permanently to the El Paso, TX/Las Cruces, NM area. Certain U.S.-based or customer-facing roles may require compliance with immunization, occupational health mandates, or drug testing.

Pay

Hiring range: $126,200 - $264,100 per year (USD). Eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
