About the role

This is advanced responsible inventory work in purchasing, inventory management and warehouse operations involving the requisition, receipt, storage and disposition of a varied stock of water, wastewater and electrical distribution parts and supplies required for department operations.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, checks, and records receipt of goods; stores goods in proper storage places; maintains organization of stock, receives delivery orders; withdraws goods from stock, checking for required commodity, size, and lot; receives signed delivery tickets; posts to stock record accounts.
  • Assembles and packs shipments; contacts transportation companies to arrange shipping; oversees loading of goods.
  • Stores and maintains tools, supplies and equipment and distributes same for daily use; maintains records; receives and stores material at end of the day.
  • Operates various equipment such as forklifts for loading and unloading freight trucks, trenchers for yard work, backhoes for wire pits, pick-up trucks for transporting materials, and small sweepers.
  • Responsible for interviewing and recommending potential Inventory Technicians and in training new staff.
  • Assists Inventory Technicians with questions and problems related to warehouse and purchasing operations; ensures opening, closing and securing of warehouse and grounds; as well as, schedules time to ensure workstations are covered during lunches, breaks, vacations, etc.
  • Performs routine light maintenance duties at the Dothan Utilities Complex.
  • Purchases small tools and personal work items locally; delivers tools and other materials to work sites as required.
  • Works with existing work order system to track/record material used for projects and maintenance activities and to assist with close-out procedures.

  • Communicates orally and in writing with internal staff, vendors, suppliers and other departmental staff in order to give and receive information in a courteous and professional manner.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in electrical, water or wastewater clerical or stockroom work in a computerized purchasing environment associated with a municipal or private utility operation, or;
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in accounting and/or inventory practices associated with record keeping or stockroom work in a computerized accounting environment related to municipal or private utility operation.

Qualifications

Graduation from standard senior-high school or GED equivalent. A completed employment application to include, but not limited to, detailed description of duties, month and year, and complete address on each job listed. Possession of a valid operator driver's license and an acceptable driving record (PBA 09/10/01). An employee in this position must possess a telephone, no later than the end of the probationary period, due to call-out. In an emergency and/or standby situation an employee in this position must be able to report to his/her regular work station in a maximum of 30 minutes from the time of notification. (Minimum Qualifications)

Knowledge Of Inventory control and store room methods and procedures. Kinds and grades of the supplies dealt with. Procedures and guidelines for handling and storing contaminated materials. Working knowledge of and ability to use a computer. Computer programs use for purchasing and communications. Transportation agencies and shipment methods. City streets and maps. Mental And Physical Ability To Operate and care for equipment such as forklift, freight and pick-up trucks, etc. Follow and initiate oral or written instructions. Lift and work with objects exceeding 50 pounds.
