About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Computer Engineer to join our dynamic team in the Applied Sensing division at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI). This role involves technical implementation, technical leadership, and business development related to developing, maintaining, and deploying computer systems for remote sensing and imaging platforms. Responsibilities include writing and testing software in high-level languages, developing and testing signal processing algorithms, and performing systems integration and testing for technology maturation.
Responsibilities
- Write and test software in high-level languages.
- Write and test logic in hardware description languages.
- Develop and test signal processing algorithms from concept to implementation.
- Perform systems integration and testing for technology maturation.
- Develop software applications using object-oriented languages such as C++, Java, or similar.
- Incorporate open, non-proprietary standards such as STANAG, OMS/UCI, SOSA, or similar into software development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- 12 years of experience as a software or firmware engineer.
- 10 years of demonstrated, successful experience developing and deploying software applications using object-oriented languages.
- Experience with modern Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as Netbeans, Visual Studio, Eclipse, or similar.
- U.S. citizenship due to federal government research contract requirements.
- Eligibility to obtain a United States SECRET clearance (or higher) for ongoing employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Experience programming in algorithm-level languages such as Matlab/Simulink, Python, or similar.
- Experience developing software to communicate and exchange information with hardware devices, sensors, and/or systems.
- Experience installing, configuring, and working in Windows and Linux environments.
- Experience developing software applications for multi-platform environments (e.g., Windows and Linux).
- Experience with parallel programming using languages such as OpenCL and/or CUDA.
- Experience with source code version control systems such as Git, Subversion, or similar.
- Experience with software development practices such as Agile, Scrum, or similar.
- Experience developing complex systems of systems (SoS) by integrating disparate software and hardware systems from multiple vendors.
- Experience with sensing modalities including Electro Optical (EO), Infrared (IR), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Moving Target Indicator (MTI), Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI), LiDAR, or polarimetric imaging (PI).
- Experience with embedded systems design and programming, including Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
- Experience developing, integrating, and maintaining multi-intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems at high levels of technological readiness.
- Experience with field experimentation, flight testing, data collection, and analysis, including operating in and around manned and unmanned aircraft.
- Experience leading technical teams in solving complex computer engineering problems.
- Experience designing user interface software solutions.
- An active SECRET (or higher) clearance.
