About the role
Join our investments team as a Principal, Business & Financial Analyst - Energy and Utility to help manage and guide our industry-leading energy and utility initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Conduct due diligence on projects to assess their value and risk profile in the context of the broader portfolio.
- Create, where necessary, complex, detailed cost models to assess the opportunity (as it relates to power requirements).
- Create a detailed cash flow model that can be used as a template for projects.
- Collaborate with legal teams to review, draft, and maintain legal documentation required for transactions, including contracts and agreements.
- Collaborate with other teams, such as engineering, development, finance, real estate and origination functions to provide comprehensive solutions to internal and external clients.
- Support senior management with necessary report/presentations and detailed analysis for meetings, internal approval processes, and strategy sessions.
- Write detailed reports on power procurement opportunities, risks and trends that support origination efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Science, Business Administration, or Financial Analytics is preferred.
- 10+ years of business analyst experience or other relevant experience.
- 10+ years of working experience in a collaborative financial environment (banking, real estate, etc.) focused on driving bottom line value-creation through strategic thinking in a time-sensitive manner.
- Deep understanding of energy markets, grid operations, interconnection processes, and regulatory drivers.
- Familiarity with emerging energy and data center technologies, including onsite power generation and data center energy solutions.
- Advanced experience with complex modeling and analytics tools such as Excel, Tableau and Power BI.
- Solid experience creating financial models using WACC, NPV, IRR and ROI.
- Experience collaborating with legal teams and reviewing contracts.
- Experience providing financial and analytical support to a development organization.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and negotiation skills; ability to build relationships across utilities, developers, policymakers, and internal stakeholders.
- Optimistic and resourceful problem solver.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10 or more years’ professional experience that includes leading cross‑functional teams, strategic planning, and driving business growth.
- Experience operating in or alongside energy, infrastructure, utilities, large capital programs, strategy, or similarly complex environments.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and drive outcomes through matrixed stakeholder groups.
