Pay

Annual compensation: $110,000 - $125,000 depending on experience.

About the role

The Principal Biostatistician serves as the senior statistical authority for Family Care Center research, designing and executing analyses that measure clinical outcomes, treatment effectiveness, and quality of care across a multi-site behavioral health organization. This role partners with clinical leadership, Business Intelligence, and operational stakeholders to translate complex clinical questions into rigorous study designs and statistical models, and to communicate findings that inform care decisions and organizational strategy. As the most senior individual contributor in statistics, the role sets analytical standards, ensures reproducibility, and mentors analysts without formal supervisory authority.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and leads statistical analyses of clinical data, selecting appropriate study designs, sampling strategies, and modeling approaches to answer questions about treatment outcomes, patient populations, and quality of care
  • Develops and applies a full range of statistical methods, including regression modeling, longitudinal and survival analysis, mixed-effects models, and hypothesis testing, to large and complex datasets sourced from Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other relational systems
  • Extracts, joins, and prepares large clinical datasets using SQL, ensuring analytic data is accurate, well-documented, and fit for statistical use
  • Produces publication-quality figures, tables, and reports in R or similar program, according to specific scientific journal requirements, translating statistical output into clear deliverables for clinical, executive, and external research audiences
  • Establishes and maintains reproducible analytical workflows, using Git for version control of statistical code and analysis scripts and enforcing standards for documentation and peer review
  • Partners with Business Intelligence and clinical leadership to define metrics, validate data definitions, and ensure statistical rigor in dashboards, outcome measures, and program evaluations
  • Interprets and communicates findings, including uncertainty and limitations, to non-technical stakeholders through written summaries and presentations that inform clinical and operational decisions
  • Sets analytical standards and best practices across the analytics function, and provides technical mentorship, code review, and methodological guidance to analysts and data staff
  • Writes the Methods and Results sections of all scientific peer-reviewed manuscripts, with review from the Director of Research
  • Addresses specific Reviewer comments that pertain to the statistical analysis methods and outcomes at every stage of the manuscript review process from initiation to publication, including additional statistical tests and reporting, and submission to alternative journals if needed
  • Evaluates and recommends statistical tools, methods, and software to advance the organization's analytical capabilities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a closely related quantitative field required
  • Seven years of applied statistical experience, with significant experience analyzing healthcare or clinical data in large data sets from EHRs is required
  • Publication history in peer-reviewed scientific journals is required
  • Behavioral health/psychiatry research experience and knowledge of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is strongly preferred
  • Experience with standardized scales in psychiatry is strongly preferred
  • Proficient in SQL for querying, extracting, and joining large clinical datasets from EHRs and other relational data sources
  • Skilled in R for statistical computing, data manipulation, and generating publication-quality charts, figures, and tables
  • Experienced using Git for version control, ensuring reproducible analyses and collaborative management of statistical code and analysis scripts
  • Advanced proficiency in statistical analysis software such as SAS, STATA, and/or SPSS for conducting a full range of statistical tests and modeling
