Principal AV Behavior Safety Engineering Lead

For our client, we are seeking a Principal AV Behavior Safety Engineering Lead to join the team of a leader in the Manufacturing & Automotive space. This role will guide the safety strategy for next-generation autonomous driving architectures with a strong focus on behavior performance and launch readiness. You will own the behavior-focused portion of the safety case and partner closely with cross-functional engineering teams to define how the system is validated end to end. The position will also shape safety targets, systematic ODD breakdowns, and the assurance process that supports safe deployment. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $250,600 – $384,600 annually Responsibilities Lead the safety strategy for next-generation ADS architectures Own the behavior-focused portion of the ADS safety case Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the end-to-end AV behavior validation methodology Set strategy for systematic breakdown of ODDs and validation performance Assess AV performance using simulation and road data and provide feedback Define and manage an assurance process for safety targets and launch readiness Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field 8+ years of experience in machine learning, engineering, data science, or a related field 8+ years of experience in autonomous vehicle or robotics development Demonstrated experience working on production-intent AV programs Proven technical safety leadership in AV development, including safety strategies and validation methodologies Deep understanding of AV behavior development and evaluation criteria Experience with AV safety standards such as ISO 5083 and ISO 21448 Benefits Variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs including medical, dental, and vision Retirement savings plan and life insurance options Paid vacation and holidays Tuition assistance programs Vehicle discounts Eligible for a vehicle evaluation program Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
