About the role
The Principal oversees the educational, behavioral, and administrative functions of the school. Key responsibilities include supervising instruction and curriculum development, functioning as a building manager, instructional leader, school climate leader, staff developer, and school/community relations specialist.
Responsibilities
- Organize, administer, and supervise the instructional program within the school.
- Manage human, material, and financial resources to ensure student learning and compliance with legal mandates.
- Plan, implement, support, and assess instructional programs that enhance teaching and student achievement of the Standards of Learning and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals.
- Supervise the alignment, coordination, and delivery of assigned programs and/or curricular areas.
- Interpret all licensure, VAISEF, and DOE regulations and mandates; ensure accurate maintenance of these regulations.
- Maintain regular faculty meetings and maintain effective communication with all school personnel.
- Supervise, develop, and evaluate staff subject to agency human resources practices and policies.
- Orient, support, evaluate, and retain quality instructional and support personnel.
- Develop, review, update, and train staff on program evaluation results and school instructional improvement plans, organizational information, and changes in regulations.
- Maintain the school handbook of policies and procedures, including the school’s standards of student conduct and matters of interest to parents and students.
- Assume responsibility for professional growth and keep materials, supplies, and skills up to date.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in Special Education and/or Administration/Supervision K-12.
- Thorough knowledge of general and special education principles, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Ability to travel to other sites, locations, and field trips with students.
- Ability to complete CPR and First Aid Training.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Qualifications
- Must not have any violations within the last 5 years related to reckless driving, driving under the influence, manslaughter, or driving after being declared a habitual offender.
- Must not have any violations within the last 3 years related to passing a stopped school bus, careless driving, or three or more minor moving violations.

Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM.
Driving Specific
- No reckless driving, driving under the influence, manslaughter, or driving after being declared a habitual offender within the last 5 years.
- No passing a stopped school bus, careless driving, or three or more minor moving violations within the last 3 years.
