Principal Applications Engineer
Role and Responsibilities
The Principal Application Engineer at Bloom is the primary driver of complex technical sales activities, developing customer relationships and requirements for the implementation of distributed generation products and solutions. You will use in-depth product and industry knowledge to provide technical expertise to the customer through technical sales presentations and detailed customer engagements while developing strategic requirements documentation and product solutions to meet those requirements. Additionally, you will create conceptual designs and implement specifications to demonstrate the feasibility of Bloom’s solution.
The Principal Application Engineer must have experience working independently in a competitive sales environment with a focus on eliminating technical barriers for complex energy projects while representing a highly technical product or service related to the power industry. You must have a superior understanding of power systems and energy in addition to a broad set of engineering and construction solutions with the ability to manage the internal and external pre-sales solution development process.

- Responsible for supporting quota attainment by providing technical support and expertise directly to customers in support of sales objectives
- Responsible for defining customer requirements and establishing product specifications for customer solutions. Produce project-specific contract inputs as needed
- Technically support the Sales team with Bid and Proposal writing
- Understand and overcome customer technical objections and secure approval to proceed with key project parameters
- Responsible for providing technical feedback based on customer requirements regarding engineering and product management based on customer input and engagement
- Define the scope of work during the pre-sales process leveraging internal and external resources with conceptual designs to implement electrical, mechanical & civil infrastructure connections between the Bloom Energy system, customer site, and utility
Qualifications And Desired Characteristics
- Minimum bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or college
- 10-15 years in a customer-facing and technical support role in the power systems and energy industry specifying, designing and proposing onsite distributed generation architectures
- 10+ years of relevant experience in power generation technology, i.e. gas turbines, reciprocating engines, battery storage, wind and solar, or fuel cell applications
- Knowledge of codes (NEC, IBC, local codes), standards (IEEE), and regulations (local, national, or international)
- Background in energy-related technology and solutions
- Strong skills in the areas of collaboration, communication, and critical thinking are critical
- Professional Engineering License is favorable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
