Broad Statement of Responsibilities

The Primary Therapist at All Points North is responsible for providing the highest levels of Trauma and Addiction treatment services in an inpatient residential treatment facility. Primary Therapists are responsible for providing individual and group counseling services to patients and families. The Primary Therapist works as part of an Interdisciplinary team helping to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient, facilitating its focus, goals, and execution. The Primary therapist will carry a caseload of patients and work diligently to help each patient find their path to recovery and change. Along with a trauma and family-based approach to individual and family treatment, the Primary Therapist also works closely with the residential team to coordinate and facilitate patient growth, peer support and 12 step recovery. The primary therapist plays a critical role in the delivery of care. Primary therapists are responsible for developing rapport with patients to effectively assess, address and treat Trauma, Addiction and Mental Health Disorders. Concurrently, the primary therapist is responsible for helping patients address issues related to family dynamics, self-esteem, life skills, and other issues.

Qualifications

  • Education: A minimum of a master’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: 3 plus years’ experience in the residential treatment of individuals with Addiction and Mental Health Issues. Trauma therapy experience preferred but not required.
  • Special Skills & Knowledge: Exceptional verbal and written skills are required to effectively express ideas and views when (a) speaking to groups, staff, outside professionals, and corporate officers; (b) for preparing written reports; (c.) data input. Must possess initiative and judgment capabilities to organize and plan activities, systematize procedures, promote favorable public relations, and make decisions affecting service delivery to consumers. Must be flexible to adjust to changing conditions and the various details of the job.
  • Physical Requirements: Routine mobility to include standing, stooping, bending, lifting, walking and running. Regularly required to sit and work at a phone/computer work station. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Position Duties and Responsibilities – Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides Counseling of individuals and families through a trauma focus. Facilitate psycho-educational, experiential and process groups. Maintain up to date and accurate progress and incident notes on clients in EMR system. Attend regular case staffing and reviews with Clinical teams. Attend in-service, staffing, seminars, and classes as required. Conduct psychosocial evaluations, create individualized treatment plans, ongoing treatment plan reviews and discharge summaries for clients. Collaborate with clinical team, case management team, referent, and family for after care planning. Provide therapeutic interventions to individuals, groups and families as needed. Provide ongoing and consistent clinical Updates to client’s family and referents. Evaluate the individual and family system as well as assess client’s functioning within work, family and routines of daily living and identify areas needing change, resources, and treatment in order to best help each client. Ability to tailor treatment strategies to the patient’s stage of dependence, change and recovery. Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of addiction. Demonstrates an understanding of the role Developmental trauma plays in addiction and other dysfunctional behaviors. Demonstrates an understanding of the psychological, behavioral, physical health and social effects of psychoactive substances on patients. Demonstrates knowledge of models and theories for treatment of Trauma, Addiction and Mental Health Disorders. Develop, implement, and maintain partnerships with other community providers. Evaluate the individual and family systems as well as assess patient’s functioning within work, family and routines of daily living and identify areas needing change, resources, and treatment in order to best help each patient. Maintain the highest level of ethical standards and integrity. Maintain up to date and accurate progress and incident notes on patients in EMR system. Perform Clinical assessments, case management, consultation, referral and education according to the All Points North Treatment model. Recognizes the importance of family, social networks, and community systems in the treatment & recovery process. Understand the established diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders and describe treatment modalities and placement criteria. Understand the importance of research and outcome data in clinical practice. Understand the value of an interdisciplinary approach to treatment.
