Primary Therapist

Responsibilities

Provide dialectical behavioral clinical services to clients diagnosed with a mental health disorder, assisting with the development of coping skills and emotional regulation.

  • Deliver a minimum of 20–30 hours of direct client care weekly, including group and individual sessions.
  • Meet with clients on caseload on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain consistent contact with family or support members.
  • Assess counseling needs of clients and evaluate for substance abuse and mental health diagnoses using DSM, PHQ-9, and Columbia Scale criteria to determine appropriate level of care based on ASAM and DSM standards.
  • Review relevant previous treatment records.
  • Prepare and provide mental health counseling and co-occurring portions of the client treatment plan.
  • Develop client discharge and continuum of care plans to ensure movement to appropriate levels of care.
  • Document all client records, including counseling, education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals, and follow-up in the clinical record.
  • Coordinate support services for the client and family, recording services in the clinical record.
  • Contact and coordinate with referral sources (e.g., legal, school, employer).
  • Facilitate crisis interventions using a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • Facilitate group sessions and DBT-specific interventions, including skills coaching, phone coaching, DBT intensive group sessions, and on-call coaching.
  • Document discharge summaries, individual sessions, weekly calls, level of care changes, group sessions, and treatment plans.
  • Assist and cover for other staff to maintain department productivity and efficiency.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as the company grows to support department success.

  • Clinical competencies include screening, intake/orientation, assessment, treatment/discharge planning, crisis intervention, counseling, consultation, case management, client education, referral, and recordkeeping.

Performance Standards & Measurement

  • Compliance with essential and incidental duties, company policies, and state/federal laws.
  • Document individual and group therapy within 24 hours.
  • Review Level of Service Report weekly to assess therapist efficiency in documentation.
  • Participate in semi-annual Group Auditing Procedure to ensure adherence to group curriculum and client skill-building (minimum score of 3.3 required).
  • Complete Client Treatment Planning within 30 days of initial evaluation/assessment.
  • Ensure quality of care using evidence-based treatment and outcome-based data to reduce symptomatic response of co-occurring conditions.
  • Participate in quarterly Chart Auditing to ensure clinical notation standards (minimum score of 3.3 required).

Equipment & Working Conditions

  • Use of computer, telephone, printer, fax, company network, and email domain.
  • Work in an air-conditioned, well-illuminated office environment and outdoors.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with constant, potentially interruptive interactions.
  • Work may be stressful due to high workflow.
  • Availability for flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings to accommodate client needs.
  • Participate in educational training, orientations, or compliance programs as needed.
  • Provide 30 days’ written resignation notice if leaving employment.

Demands

  • Enthusiastic self-starter with sustained energy and initiative.
  • Comfort working with a diverse base of support (e.g., members, employers, providers, colleagues, community leaders, volunteers, non-profits, vendors).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, including reading, writing, and spelling with minimal errors.
  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively with clients, employees, and business partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work ethic and congenial attitude in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to function independently and with flexibility.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and interruptions.
  • Occasional lifting of moderately heavy office supplies (up to 25 lbs).
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record software.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate licensed therapist required; fully licensed preferred.
  • Experience: 1–3 years in a clinical setting with individuals diagnosed with a mental health disorder, including individual and group therapy.
  • Certifications: DBT Intensive Training or DBT Foundational Training required; current CPR Certification and Narcan Certification preferred.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
