Primary Care Physician (MD/DO) - Veteran Affairs Outpatient Clinic

About the role
Provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients with diseases and injuries seeking treatment in the clinic. Collaborate with the core PACT Team (Primary Care Provider, RN, and Medical Assistant) and expanded PACT Team including family/caregiver, VA, and community-based services involved in developing the patient care plan.
Schedule
- Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- No nights, on-call, or weekends
- 4 days per week / 0.8 FTE (considered full-time for benefits)
- 10–12 patients per day with PACT team support (RN, LPN, and MA)
- Half a day of dedicated admin time each week

Responsibilities
- Actively diagnose and treat veterans
- Examine patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders, determine nature and extent of injury/disorder, and perform comprehensive physical examinations
- Develop and implement patient management plans and assist in continuity of care
- Order and perform diagnostic tests
- Prescribe medication and recommend dietary and activity programs
- Counsel patients on prescription medications, educate patients, assess mental health issues, and provide routine health maintenance
- Evaluate records from external medical providers and co-manage care per VA rules
- Complete all clinical reminders due at each visit and document encounters within 24 hours
- Comply with VA guidelines for patient requests, alerts, notifications, consults, orders, lab results, and diagnostic studies
- Serve as a collaborative physician to mid-level providers when needed
- Address clinical needs of walk-in, triage, and urgent care patients
- Comply with VA and company training requirements
- Maintain women’s health certification and competencies as required by the VA
- Fulfill compliance requirements for OIG, Joint Commission, Environment of Care, lab compliance, and related oversight
- Focus on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through VA guidelines
- Provide excellent customer service to veterans, colleagues, and visitors
- Participate in clinic outreach events to support enrollment initiatives
- Support patient enrollment and retention through guidance on scheduling and follow-up
- Embrace and support new clinical or operational initiatives
Requirements
- 2+ years of clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree
- Board certified or eligible in family practice or internal medicine
- Must be credentialed and remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA)
- Valid, unrestricted medical license in the state of employment or as required by VA contract
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS certification (AHA BLS valid for two years)
- Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Excellent computer skills
- Energetic and optimistic demeanor with a strong service mentality
