Primary Care Physician – Family Medicine with Obstetrics (FMOB) | Community Memorial Hospital- Family Medicine | SOM | M67726

Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain a practice at the Family Medicine Residency Clinic through resident precepting and an optional outpatient panel (based on outpatient Family Medicine FTE).

Provide full-spectrum FMOB care including prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.

Participate in shared obstetrics call coverage.

Optional participation in inpatient pediatric care and newborn nursery coverage.

Optional participation in adult inpatient medicine.

Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

Precept residents and medical students in family medicine and obstetrics settings.

Serve as faculty for FMOB curriculum development.

Support development of rural FMOB training.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO with eligibility for Virginia licensure.
  • Completion of accredited Family Medicine residency.
  • Board Certified/Eligible.
  • Demonstrated competency in obstetrics including vaginal delivery.
  • Experience in providing direct patient care to underserved populations across multiple settings.
  • Willing and able to care for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • This position will include light newborn nursery and inpatient pediatrics call (facility currently has approx. 300 deliveries/year).
  • Adult inpatient and pediatric/newborn services are optional for this position (facility currently has approximately 50 pediatric admissions/year).
  • We incorporate proctoring as part of our onboarding process, so current inpatient privileges are not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
  • FMOB fellowship or equivalent experience (preferred).
  • Experience with assisted delivery and/or cesarean section is strongly preferred.
  • Rural practice and teaching experience (preferred).
  • Experience in providing direct patient care and/or residency training in rural settings (preferred).
  • Experience in the medical education of learners such as residents, medical students, inter-professional learners (preferred).
  • Confidence and willingness to be a faculty lead in one or more of the following: Care of pregnant women including antenatal, labor and delivery including operative management, and postpartum care; Care of adults in the inpatient setting; Care of children in the inpatient setting; Mental Health treatment in the primary care setting; Substance abuse treatment to include medically assisted therapy; Primary care Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and/or specialized procedural training in emergency, inpatient and outpatient setting (preferred).
  • Leadership experience, preferably of a multi-site primary care group (preferred).
