About the role

The Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division responds quickly and efficiently to public health emergencies. Employees maintain contact information and participate in a call-down system to mobilize staff during emergencies. During emergencies, work hours can be modified to meet community needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides primary care services, including chronic disease management and sexual and reproductive wellness/family planning services.
  • Performs physical examinations, draws blood, orders tests, and makes diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Issues contraceptives and medications, makes referrals, educates clients, and consults with supervising physicians.
  • Participates in continuing education, policy development, peer review, and professional development.
  • Travels to various County clinics to provide services and attends meetings and outreach events.

Requirements

  • A registered nurse with a Master’s Degree in family practice and preparation in specialized practitioner skills.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • OR a new graduate with a Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing, eligible for Advanced Practice Nurse Certification and a Certificate of Fitness.
  • OR a new graduate with a Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing, eligible for Advanced Practice Nurse Certification and a Certificate of Fitness within three months of hire.
  • OR a new graduate with a Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing, eligible for Advanced Practice Nurse Certification and a Certificate of Fitness within three months of hire.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the agency and community.
  • Effective communication in both oral and written form.
  • Issuing medications per protocol.
  • Performing routine gynecological and laboratory tests and exams.
  • Providing uncomplicated prenatal care.
  • Investigating and reporting confidential medical issues.
  • Providing case management/outreach to indigent or underserved populations.
  • Interviewing, assessing, documenting, maintaining and reporting medical information.
  • Performing primary care medical examinations.
  • Issuing and prescribing medications.
  • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting medical research, reports, tests, and information.
  • Utilizing verbal and written communication in providing presentations, counseling, educational materials, and instructions related to medical information.
  • Providing case management/outreach to culturally sensitive, indigent or underserved populations.
  • Utilizing customer service/public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the agency and community.
  • Effective communication in both oral and written form.

Benefits

Work requires long periods of standing, walking, lifting medical supplies weighing up to 10 pounds, assisting patients in transfers to examination tables, performing routine lab work such as blood draws and specimen collection; extended periods of extensive contact with infectious diseases and mentally ill patients, driving to other clinic sites.
