Pricing Engineering Manager

About the role

SpotHero is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a key squad focused on pricing. The role involves enabling the best price possible for all locations on SpotHero through cutting-edge technology.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of engineers, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Own team execution and delivery: roadmap planning, goal setting, and shipping well-tested, usable products.
• Ensure adherence to engineering best practices, including quality, observability, testing, security, and performance.
• Build partnerships across Product, Data, and Ops to align on priorities and drive business outcomes.
• Develop team members through mentorship, coaching, and thoughtful career conversations.
• Contribute to org-wide engineering practices: on-call readiness, DORA metrics, onboarding, and more.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer working on distributed systems in Python, Java, Kotlin, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• 3+ years of experience managing engineers, ideally on small, fast-moving squads.
• A clear communication style, a bias toward action, and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
• A track record of building resilient systems and leading teams through scaling challenges.
• Comfortable working in the SpotHero stack or willing to learn quickly: Java/Python/Go, React, Postgres, AWS, Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Experience with backend development.

Skills

• Technical skills in backend technologies like Java, Python, Kotlin, Postgres, and frontend technologies like React/Redux.
• Experience with DevOps tools such as AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Prometheus, and Honeycomb.
• Data management skills using Redshift, Airflow, and Looker.

Pay

• In Illinois: Base salary between $152,000 - $190,000, plus discretionary bonus and total rewards package.
• In Ontario: Base salary between CA$148,800 - $186,000, plus discretionary bonus and total rewards package.
